Before things get busy in salon

One of the things I’ve always admired about salon owners is how good they are at coping.

A cancellation appears, someone phones in sick, the diary suddenly changes or a supplier lets you down. But somehow you take it all in your stride and keep the day moving.

But there’s a downside to always being good at reacting. Sometimes we stop making time to prepare.

Don’t let the next four months drift

September to December is usually the busiest part of the salon year, which sounds like good news.

But ‘busy’ doesn’t automatically mean profitable.

The salons most likely to end 2026 on a high and have a cracking start to 2027 aren’t always working harder than everyone else. They’ve simply started planning, prepping and taking action earlier.

They’ve thought about Christmas while everyone else is still squeezing the last out of summer. Their promotions are taking shape, gift cards are being organised and they’re thinking beyond the festive rush too.

Because the decisions you make over the next few months won’t just shape Christmas. They’ll shape the salon you walk back into in January 2027.

I know… preparation might not sound particularly exciting. But it’s one of the biggest business advantages your salon can have.

My challenge for you this week

Ask yourself:

What business decision am I putting off that would make the next few months – and the start of 2027 – stronger?

  • Maybe it’s your website.
  • Maybe it’s Christmas planning.
  • Maybe it’s your pricing.
  • Maybe it’s something completely different.

Whatever it is, don’t add it to yet another to-do list.

👉 Pick one thing. Make the decision this week. Then do something about it.
